Say NO to these harmful chemicals and YES to health


Parabens

Parabens are known as endocrine disruptors, that means they mimic estrogen in the body and can lead to hormonal imbalances, and possibly even breast cancer.

Avoid using any skin care or makeup product with parabens in it such as, Methylparaben, proplyparaben, isopropylparaben, and isobutylparaben. If paraben is in the word, avoid it.


Polyethylene Glycol (PEG)

Polyethylene Glycol (PEG) is used in many types of cosmetics as a thickener, especially in lotions, shampoo, and sunscreen.

PEG is often contaminated with both ethylene oxide and 1,4-Dioxane.

Ethylene oxide has the ability to damage DNA, so is known to be a carcinogen and 1,4- Dioxane which is banned in Canada, can irritate the skin, eyes and can affect the lungs.


Formaldehyde

Formaldehyde is used as a preservative in cosmetics. It is known as a carcinogen that is linked to asthma, neurotoxicity, and developmental toxicity.

Formaldehyde is a highly reactive molecule that are both irritating for the skin and one of the most allergenic substances used in skin-care products.


Benzophenone

Benzophenone is found in a lot of makeup products, including lip balms and nail enamels. It’s used to keep cosmetics and nail polishes from breaking down when they are exposed to ultraviolet light.

This chemical can contribute to cancer development.

In the case of lip balms it's best to go for the ones without this chemical or for one with natural ingredients.


Hydroquinone

Hydroquinone is found in a lot of cosmetics that have skin lightening properties.

This chemical is quite toxic. It is usually listed as Hydroquinone or tocopheryl acetate on product labels.

It is banned in European Union countries because of its toxicity. It may trigger the development of cancer or irritation of the respiratory tract, as well as the toxicity of organ systems.


Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS)

SLS are more common in skin and care hair products that foam up, it’s also found in a lot of makeup products.

This chemical may contain quantities of 1,4 dioxane and ethylene oxide.
